ABOUT

During the first week of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships Wimbledon Fashion Week was held in the trendy night club Bar Sia (next to New Wimbledon Theatre).

Up & coming designers flew in from all around the world including Australia, Turkey, China, Germany and Canada to launch their new collections for the first time in the UK. The exhibitors included Sruti Sethuraman, Harlette de Falaise by Naomi McGill, Driann by Diana Aghedo, Natasha Petafi, Talisa Qi, Krystall Designs by Sonalika Kapur & Mallika Satia, Karina Spektor and Melis Binay.

Each designer was allocated a space to sell their clothes and network, while the venues plasma screens ran through exciting Wimbledon themed photo shoots that showcased their collection. Each designer was accompanied by models wearing their outfits who posed both in front of the press panel, for the audience and outside in Wimbledon. Mark McGough, the Creator and Producer of the event says “When the models with their super long legs and super slim figures were posing near the station for the photographers, the crowds, just for a moment, forgot about the tennis and eagerly awaited their turn to have their photo taken with the models. It was a fun sight and showed there is definitely demand in Wimbledon for an exciting fashion event.”

The last day saw Miss Wimbledon 2009, Alanna Thomas, attend the event to congratulate the designers. According to Mark, next year will see Wimbledon Fashion Week branch out of one single location to occupy a larger part of Wimbledon “It’s the next logical step. Last year we did fashion shows in a hotel, this year we held a trade show in a night club and with the support of Miss Wimbledon we can now do both in multiple venues.”
